Elizabeth Taylor was born in England in 1932. She was a very beautiful child, with black hair and bluish-purple eyes. In 1939, she and her family moved to America, where film makers soon noticed her beauty. She became a child star at the age of nine, and appeared in the film "Lassie" and "National Velvet". Elizabeth Taylor is one of the few child film stars who have been quite successful when they grow up. She has made many well-known films all her life: one of them is "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" in 1958. Her personal life has not been as successful as her films. She has got married eight times. She has often been ill with back problems and has had many operations. In 1981, after she left her second husband, she was in such low spirits that she turned to food, drink and drugs (毒品) for comfort. For the first time in her life, her beauty left her and she put on a lot of weight. However, in 1983, she went to stay in a hospital, and there she worked hard to give up her addiction (瘾). Today she is a grandmother and she has her film star looks again. Why was Elizabeth Taylor chosen to make films when she was very young [A] Because she spoke English very well. [B] Because she looked very pretty. [C] Because her father was a famous director.

第二节 短文理解 1 阅读下面短文,从[A](Right.)、[B](Wrong.)、[C](Doesn’t Say.)三个判断中选择一个正确选项。 Christmas is coming. It is celebrated every year on December 25 and it is the most celebrated holiday in the world. It is celebrated in Europe, Noah America, South America and in every country that has been touched by western culture. Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Today, most people who celebrate Christmas are not Christians (基督徒). They celebrate the holiday because Christmas is an opportunity for people to show the "good feelings" they have for each other. Christmas is called "the season of giving." It is the time of year when people give gifts to others to show how much they love them or just to show how much they appreciate them. We give gifts to our family and we also give gifts to close friends. Many people also give gifts to people who have performed services for them through the year, like the postman or the cleaner. And Christmas is the time of year we remember that many people are less fortunate than us: the poor, the sick and the lonely; and we try to help them in any way we can. Postmen and cleaners don’t work on Christmas.
