There are two aspects of communication: [填空1] and [填空2]. The speaker makes his idea clear to the hearer; the hearer tries to understand the speaker meaning.
Communication involves two intentions:[填空1] intention-- the intention to inform an audience of something, [填空2] intention--the intention to inform the audience of one's informative intention.
According to Relevance Theory, an assumption is relevant in a context if and only if it has some[填空1]in that context. Context means not simply the preceding linguistic text, or the environment in which the utterance occurs, but the set of[填空2]used to understand the utterance.
Saussure also makes a distinction between [填空1]study (e.g. Shakespearean English) and diachronic study(e.g. A Short History of the English Language).
