A It was Mary’s birthday. She received a letter from her uncle who was a farmer. "Dear Mary," the letter said. "Happy birthday. I’m sending you some chickens. They will arrive tomorrow. Hope you like them. Best wishes, Uncle Sam." Mary was pleased, because she liked eating eggs and chicken. When the chickens arrived the next day, she took the box of chickens off the back of the truck and began to carry it into her garden. However, the box was too heavy for Mary and she dropped it. The box fell to the ground and broke. The chickens ran everywhere—into neighbour’s garden, into the road, into shops, even into the next street. Mary spent hours trying to find them and take them back to her garden. When her uncle came to visit her a few days later, he asked Mary, "Did the chickens arrive safely" "Yes," Mary said. "But I had some trouble with them. I dropped the box and the chickens ran everywhere. I spent the whole morning looking for them." "Did you find them all" her uncle asked. "I hope so," Mary replied. "I caught eleven of them." "That’s very interesting," her uncle said, "because I only sent you six.\ How many chickens did Mary’s uncle send her

G Canada and the United States are two countries. They are on the same continent (大陆) next to each other and share (共有) the same language. These two countries also share in other wags. Canada buys many things from the U.S. Cars and clothes are two examples. The Unite States also buys Canadian made things. Much of the paper used in the United States comes from Canada. Some of the oil we use comes from Canada, too. Americans travel to Canada on holidays. And Canadians often visit the United States. Canadians read about the U.S. in newspapers and books. Americans watch Canadian sports played in the United States. There are important differences between the two countries. They are about the same size. But the U.S. has many more people. Because the number of people is smaller, there is more open space in Canada. There is more unused land. This is another important difference.
