[听力原文]15-17Henry Wheeler Shaw was born in Lanesbore, Mass. He was a great American humorist who became known under the penname of John Billings.In 1858, Shaw settled in New York, and wrote for newspapers. At first his writings attracted little notice. In 1860 he wrote an article that he called An Essay on the Muel. His funny spelling and bad gram mar suited Shaw’ s philosophy and his articles became greatly popular.Shaw also was very successful on the teaching platform with his clever sayings and moral lessons.
