听力原文: Computer programmer David Jones earns 35,000 a year designing new computer games, yet he cannot find a bank prepared to let him have a check card. Instead, he has been told to wait another two years until he is 18.
He works for a small firm in Liverpool, where most young people of his age are finding jobs. David's biggest headache is
what to do with his money. Though he has high payment, he cannot drive a car, or get credit cards.
David got his job four months ago, a year after leaving school with six O-levels and working for a time in a computer shop. "I got the job because the people who run the firm knew I had already written some programs," he said.
"I suppose 35,000 sounds like a lot but I hope it will come to more than that this year." He spends some of Iris money on records and clothes, and gives his mother 20 a week as he lives with his parents. But most of his spare time is spent working.
"Unfortunately, computing was not part of our studies at school," he said. "But I had been studying it in books and magazines for four years in my spare time. I knew what I wanted to do and never considered staying on at school. Most people in this business are fairly young, anyway. I would like to earn a million and I suppose early retirement is a possibility. You never know when the market might disappear."

听力原文: (26) Many a fire is caused by carelessness, laziness and stupidity. Many people are careless about the problems of electric appliances, while some others want to save money and so they try to fix the problem by themselves instead of asking a service man. Fire that is caused by such behaviors is an example of stupidity. (27) Some smokers carelessly leave behind cigarettes which are being lighted in the ashtray. They go to do a piece of work that they remember all of a sudden. They want to come back to the cigarette when the work is done. Unfortunately, they forget their cigarettes which they have been smoking just then. (27) Some fire accidents are caused by burning cigarettes. Some people are lazy. They often throw away old newspapers and magazines in the kitchen where oil gas is stored. Big fire may take place when a child plays with matches there. Therefore, (28) old newspapers and magazines should not be put in the kitchen and matches should be placed beyond the reach of children. Some residents of tall apartment buildings fix theft-proof iron bars across the windows of their homes. They have not thought of them as obstacles to themselves on case of an outbreak of fire. Time and time again, those bars have been killers in fire accidents. The Fire Prevention Bureau has often told us to help to cut down fire accidents by reporting to the Fire Brigade, when staircases and exits are found to be obstructed. Without our cooperation, more fire accidents would likely happen.
