The first Olympic Games were held in 776 BC. They began as a religious festival and were held every four years. They were held in a valley of Ancient Greece called Olympia. Athletes came to Olympia to train full time for ten months prior to the Olympics. They had to undergo an examination of a ten-member panel who assessed them on their character and physical ability. Women were not allowed to participate in these early Olympic games and could not attend tile games. At the first games in 776 BC, the only event held was a foot race and was the length of the stadium. Later, a chariot race was added and was one of the most exciting events of these Olympics. The race was nine miles long. The prize for the victors of these early Olympics was a simple olive tree branch. Today, the Olympics are one of the most exciting events televised. People from all over the world watch to see the athletes from their countries compete in over twenty-eight events. According to the text, the Olympic Games today probably has ______.

A. [A] 25 events
B. 20 events
C. 31 events
D. 28 events

The future of the Secombe Theatre in Sutton is in doubt after a government report spreads fears of closure. The report says the theatre does not meet modem standards for arts events and the site is capable of a larger-scale (更大规模的) development. While it promises to plan for a neighborhood center, it fails to make any mention of a new theatre, which has left many asking why. Leading figures from the arts circle have come togther to fight for the 21-year-old theatre. Barbara Windsor, chairman of the Performing Art Society, said: "If they have to tear it down it would be a waste of a good theatre. Every town needs a heart." John Stevens, of Sutton Theatre Company, said the theatre had suffered from a lack of money and business support. "There’s a crying need for a theatre in Sutton and the public will lose out if the Secombe goes." Peter Geiringer, a city government official also argued that a neighborhood center was not the same as a theatre. "It’s silly; this is the death of the Secombe. They’re going to replace (代替) it by a hall so no one in Sutton will be able to go to a real theatre." Leslie Coman, member of city committee for the arts, said: "The Secombe has played an out- standing role in the cultural life of this town over many years. It is only right that the committee continues to look at how it can provide new buildings for artists’ workshops, and performances." Sutton Arts Committee Chairman Tony Kerslake said: "At some stage a building comes to the end of its life. If a new one was built in the same place, I would accept that as progress.\ We learn from the text that many people in the art circle of the town are______.

A. [A] for the construction of a neighbourhood centre
B. for setting up more artists’ workshops
C. against closing the Secombe Theater
D. against the plan to enlarge the theatre
