The other day we were discussing jobs in school. Our teacher, Mrs. White, said it was never too early to think about your life’s work. Most children were really too sure about what they wanted to do. And then Mrs. White asked me, I said, "A truck (卡车) driver." "Why do you want to be a truck driver, Tommy" she asked. "Because truck drivers don’t have to sit at the desks all day. They are out on the road and they see a lot of the country. The pay is good, too. And you never have any homework." The class laughed. "Well, Tommy. I guess that you don’t like sitting at a desk or doing homework. Is that so, Tommy" Mrs. White answered. "Yes, I guess so." "Well, since you are so interested in becoming a truck driver, I think you should investigate (调查) the field a little further (更远,而且). I want you to go to the library and take out a book on truck driving. And I want you to write a report on it and hand in next month." "That’s the last time I will ever tell anybody my secret idea.\ Why won’t Tommy tell about his secret ideas any more

One day, I happened to (碰巧) talk to a stranger (陌生人,异乡人) on the bus. When he found (发现,找到,创办)out that I was from Chicago, he told me that one of his good friends lived there and he wanted to know if I happened to know him. At first I wanted to say that it was foolish (愚蠢的,可笑的) to think that I could possibly meet his friend since there were millions of people in Chicago. But, instead, I just smiled and said that Chicago was a very big city. He was silent for a few minutes, and then he began to tell me all about his friend. He told me that his friend was an excellent (优秀的) tennis player (运动员) , and that he even had his own tennis court (网球场). He added that he knew a lot of people with swimming pools, but that he only knew two people in the country had their own tennis courts. And his friend in Chicago was one of them. I told him that I knew several people like that, for example, my brother and my next- door neighbour (邻居,邻接). I told him that my brother was a doctor and he lived in California. Then he asked where my brother lived in California. When I said Sacramento, he said that last year his friend spent the summer in Sacramento and lived next door to a doctor. The doctor had a tennis court (法院,院子), I said that my next-door neighbour went to Sacramento last summer and lived in the house next to my brother’s. For a moment, we looked at each other, but we did not say anything. "Would your friend’s name happen to be Roland Little Wood" I asked finally (最终). He laughed and said, "Would your brother’s name happen to be Ray Hunter" It was my turn to laugh. Where was the writer (作者,作家) from ______

A. He was from Chicago.
B. He was from California.
C. He was from Sacramento.
